What is Liminal AI?
A free fair-source agent that runs on your computer. Describe a task in plain English. Liminal plans steps, runs tools (email, Xero, Slack, documents, web search), and shows you every action in the UI.
Is Liminal AI free?
Yes. The harness is free under FSL-1.1-MIT. You only pay your AI provider for model usage. Each release converts to MIT after two years.
How is Liminal different from ChatGPT or Cursor?
ChatGPT is a chat window. Cursor is an editor with AI inside it. Liminal is a full agent loop on your machine: files, terminal, email, calendars, documents, browser, memory, and sub-agents. It also connects to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Linear, Notion, and Xero.
Does Liminal work on Windows, Mac, and Linux?
Yes. Download the desktop app from the install page (Windows, macOS arm64, and Linux builds on GitHub Releases). You need Node.js on PATH for the bundled sidecar and an OpenAI-compatible API key, or sign in with Vireon on Pro. Developers can also use the CLI installer for terminal or browser UIs.
Is my code sent to Vireon Dynamics?
No. Liminal runs locally. Your messages go to the model provider you configure. We do not host your sessions.
What models does Liminal support?
Any OpenAI-compatible API: DeepSeek, GPT, Claude routes, or local models via Ollama or LM Studio.
Can I use Liminal without my own API key?
Yes, on Pro. Vireon-managed inference routes model calls through our OpenAI-compatible proxy with included monthly credits. No provider account required. Community Edition is bring-your-own-key.
